Top Local Business Organic Google Listings In 30 Days?
On December 17th I launched my Chicago SEO challenge to see if I have the skills to get my Chicago Handyman Services website to show in organic search listings in 30 days. My goal is to get the site listed for these top three keyword phrases:
#1. chicago handyman LSV- 3,600 Listings 1, 440.000
#2. Chicago handyman services LSV- 590 Listings 313,000
#3. handyman in chicago LSV- 390 Listings 1,450.000
Today I was able to find the site on the first page of Bing with 27, 500, 000 listings for the phrase “Chicago handyman services.”
I also found the site on page two for the term “handyman in Chicago”, but with much fewer listings than on Google.
The site is still a no-show on Google, but I’m moving in the right direction. As a side note, so far, I have not employed any black-hat tactics. I will if I have to, but for now let’s see what happens with just good old basic SEO and fresh content.

Interesting that you're ranked in Y and Bing first.. I find that my pages generally rank best in Google, with trailing results or even no-shows in the other engines.
Cool challenge, by the way. Looking forward to seeing what will happen.

Me too! I'll get it there, hopefully in the 30 days. If not, keep on trying! I know what you are saying, it usually is the same for me.
Nice job. Mostly, my site got ranked when I submit them to all of the search engine submitter and also in social networking site.
A nice challenge. One thing I learned about search engines is thta they are so unpredictable.
Another thing I learned about SEO is that it is a patient game with loads of hard work. 30 days is still too little to see any significant results, in my book anyway. I tend to tell people that you should expect top see better result after 3 months.
Keep up the good work and post your progress, thoughts and lessons learned. We would all like to know.

Chuck I hope you will do it. I am in a similar situation and my challange is that if I don’t get enough traffic and sales I will not be able to pay for the warehouse and the stock I got.

so far I see myself on msn for the phrase “crown molding” on 4th page.
I got some 1st position for “decorative crown molding” but that is not my main aim.
I work on my website for about 2 months now.

I probably will not in the 30 days. I’ve been busy with some other projects. It shows in Yahoo and Bing for all the phrases now, but no Google yet. The other thing is I have never tried to rank a site that I had for sale at the same time. No worries though, it’s just a matter of time when I work on it. I have several clients in Chicago and I have them at the top for the phrases that bring them business. If you do not have a blog on those sites, you will have a real hard time. Especially on a national level. One thing that I would do is upload the free WordPress software. The link is on my front page. It’s the TOP content management system in the industry. Ford, Ebay, The Wall Street Journal, and many big players use WordPress. The site you have now are from a builder from the hosting company that you are using. Hard to compete with that type of platform in today’s market.
