LinkedIn For Business
After CraigsList, LinkedIn is my number two resource for bringing targeted traffic back to this site. I get more traffic from other places, but not the traffic that is looking for the paid services that I’m offering. Most search traffic, and the traffic from other social bookmarking sites that I’m involved with, are mostly looking for what they can get for free. While sharing and helping others is great, it sure will not pay the light bill.
LinkedIn For The Service Professional
If you are offering professional services, and you are also wondering about where to invest your time in a social marketing campaign, then LinkedIn is a place to pay close attention to.
I have received questions about LinkedIn from several of my clients, about some of the basics of using LinkedIn. Answering questions is the most important thing you can do on LinkedIn, as well as joining groups (which is outside the scope of this article).
Answering Questions on LinkedIn
You can find the answer question categories by clicking the “More” tab in the navigation bar once you log-in to your account. From there you will find the categories on the right hand side menu. One thing to keep in mind is that it can take time to find the right question to answer. I check in several times a day waiting for the right question. That reminds me, I need to see if there is an RSS feed for the questions. “-)
Question Qualifiers
These are my two “question qualifiers”
- Have I published an article, video, or podcast that addresses the question?
I want to provide great information on the question being asked, as well as getting a link back to my site. I am currently working with a client group on getting ten high quality articles published for purposes such as this. Once quality content is on my site, I can use it over and over again, providing quality information to the questioner, while bringing the targeted traffic that I’m looking for back to the site. - Have fewer than ten people answered the question?
I tend to stay away from questions that have too many answers already given. One reason for this is that when a question has many answers, chances are what I have to offer has already been given. It would just be a part of the “cyber noise” at that point.
I have found that it is better to leave a few well constructed, useful, and targeted replies, rather than making many soundbite random replies. The same applies for Yahoo Answers.
Do you have a Video On How To Use LinkedIn?
Several people have asked me if I have made any videos on LinkedIn, and the answer is no, not at this point. However, I spent a little time looking around and found a few videos on the subject that should answer most questions.
This first video goes over the basics of how to sign up, and some of the uses of LinkedIn.
LinkedIn Marketing Example and Case Study
This is a great video on the power of answering questions on LinkedIn. Do not use other people’s content! I would have answered this question even without a link back to my site because stealing people’s content off the web is something I’m very much against.

Hey Chuck. I must admit I was prepared to see a video from you and was a little disappointed that these are ones that you found
guess I’m getting spoiled.
I have a LinkedIn account and I belong to a handful of groups but haven’t really explored the benefits. This is a great intro and it’s something that will motivate me to spend some time there.
Thanks!
